Official Scouting Report

08/07/2016 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Jared continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved, displaying smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes angles in tracking down balls. Working to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target will aid in improving defensive grade. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through an uphill swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on the pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Jared is a skilled athlete who worked hard on his skills during his time in Pirate City. In the OF, he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind. He secures the ball with 2-hands, has a clean exchange and works in-line toward his target. Continuing to develop his foot speed will help to increase range in the OF. At the plate, he displays an athletic setup as he's looking to swing it. Hands work inside the ball as he connects consistently and drives the ball on a line. Working to engage his lower 1/2 more will result in increased power. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed good tailing action as he works to keep it down in the zone. Breaking ball shows 3/9 'sweeping' action. He works through a quick tempo and doesn't give hitters much time to get settled. Jared has abilities with time and room to improve. Added overall strength will help to take his skills to the next level.

08/02/2015 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Jared is a tall, athletic OF/LHP that will graduate in 2017. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.35 60 time. Defensive abilities in the OF are slightly above average as he displays smooth/clean actions. He utilizes his quick/athletic feet well in taking proper routes/angles to track balls down. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through well, and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. At the plate, hands are quick, and aggressive, working through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he works to use his lower half more aggressively through the lower half and adds overall body strength. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 64-66 mph. Changeup is best off speed pitch, showing a feel for with late arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will rise quickly as more arm strength is developed through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Jared has a lot of potential with the makings of a solid player as he continues to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
