01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jarod is a 5'11/165 lbs backstop that showed consistent ability at the Under Armour Baseball Factory Pre-Season All America Tournament. Defensively, he was efficient with his feet and controlled with his body to receive with sure hands. He gained ground to throw and had a high exchange to quickly release the ball. More lower half flexibility to enable a lower setup will help to get the hands further in front to receive more consistently. With the bat, he worked to stay inside the ball with the barrel and generated good bat whip to and through contact. He showed a lot of upside at the plate and will begin making more consistent contact with lower half drive. All in all - Jarod is an interesting follow that has other year and a half left to add strength for the next level.

06/01/2014 - National Tryout - Bakersfield, CA Grimm showed as a catcher and at 3B for the first time but currently projects slightly better behind the plate. At the plate is where he has really improved as he shows well above average hitting with solid power grades through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off bat when centered. Behind the plate, pop times where in the 2.10 range with accuracy and carry on his throws. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills have improved now showing as outstanding abilities that will play well at the next level. At 3B, feet are active as he moves well laterally, flashing range side to side. He squares balls up and presents hands well out front. Defensive grade will continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more and play through with his body.

12/27/2013 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Jarod showed good adjustments and aptitude in his latest Baseball Factory event. Defensively, he flashed a pop as low as 2.0 - but sat consistently in the 2.2 range. He also showed good tracking, soft hands to receive and quick recovery from his knees. Offensively, he is consistent getting to his launch position, has good rhythm and quick bat speed. Slight mechanical touch ups, keeping the swing simple are important for next level success. Overall - Grimm is a good sophomore catcher that has upside as he matures and improves.

06/09/2013 - College PREP - North Las Vegas, NV Jarod is an athletically built catcher with natural instincts that will graduate in 2016. Behind the dish Jarod has sure hands with a consistent transfer and centers up the ball. He tracks the ball well and uses his lower half effectively in his throws. Jarod does have a tendency to jump to balls in the dirt and could improve his hip strength and flexibility to improve his all around game behind the plate. A long toss program will also continue his arm strength development. At the plate Jarod lets the ball travel in the zone and uses all fields. He has a solid load but could create more separation and use his lower half more in the swing. Jarod's toe tap could also be smoothed out to make his swing more fluid. With his athleticism and instincts Jarod could continue to improve quickly with continued work on his mechanics and strength, and as a 2016 grad he has time to make those improvements.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
