Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/CPosition Projection

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Jarod showed as a corner IF and behind the plate at the event and continues to show steady progress in his abilities. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared / athletic setup as he tracks the ball well. Hands are loose and he has strength in his swing as he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. At 1B, he is a big target and displays proper footwork around the bag. He makes the routine plays but will benefit by presenting glove more out front. Behind the plate, pop times were in the 2.30 range with accuracy on his throws.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Jarod had a good week at the Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City, showing good use of his lower half and excellent pitch tracking ability. At the plate, he showed good extension and finished well on all of his swings. A more neutral setup will help Jarod get into a proper hitting position more consistently. Behind the plate, Jarod tries to work around pitches, puts his lower half to good use and makes accurate throws. A daily throwing program will improve his mechanics and arm strength and significantly lower pop times. He also showed in the infield, making plays with a decent glove and some feel. In all - Jarod continues to be a pleasure to work with and has tools to add strength.

07/17/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Jarod showed good ability behind the dish and at the dish at the Cape Cod Select Training & Competition. Offensively, he hit with good rhythm and got his backside through at contact. He keeps his knees inside his feet with his base and delivers the barrel on a level path. Keeping his head centered at contact and becoming more consistent with his timing will increase barrel accuracy and hit ability. Defensively, he set up well, displayed a good target, and worked with good direction to keep the ball in front. He communicated at a high level and will continue to improve his game with a quicker exchange and arm strength. All in all - Jarod has a loose personality and brings energy to the field.

02/23/2014 - College PREP - Mechanicsburg (Harrisburg), PA Jarod is a young sophomore catcher with raw ability. Offensively, he hits from a square/balanced stance, and gets the barrel to contact on a direct/level path. He showed a strong hitting position and was coordinated with his hands and hips. Rhythm and timing drills will help make sure he is more fluid and clean with his path. Defensively, he receives with ready hands and stays in line to throw. Added reps and general strength will help promote his game and enable for greater defensive success. In all - Jarod has some raw ability too build off of over the next three high school seasons.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
