12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City
Jason showed very well at the dish in hist latest Baseball Factory outing. With the bat, he showed a strong hitting position, quick hands and plus pop when centered. When he begins to fully utilize his lower half, balls will begin to find their way in the gaps and over the fence. At first, he has good bag awareness, is a good target and is aggressive to field ground balls. Fielding further in front will enable softer more sure hands. On the bump, Howell throws three pitches, with his CH showing the best action with sink from 62-63 MPH. He has athletic actions on the mound and stays directional to the dish. In all - Howell projects best as a big, strong bodied 1B that can swing with pop.
10/27/2013 - College PREP - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA
Jason is a solid 1B/LHP that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.27 60 time. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He displays smooth / clean actions through the fielding process and gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path as he shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-76 mph. Breaking ball displays a 2/8 shape, loose spin, and gradual break. He slows his arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. With 2 years to further develop, Jason has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
