06/05/2016 - National Tryout - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA Rooks continues to show a tremendous future on the diamond with the makings of a solid draft guy in 2017. He has improved his baseball tools in all aspects of the game, both in the OF and on the mound. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a superior runner at 6.72. In the OF, defensive abilities are tremendous, displaying smooth / athletic actions. He reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground, showing plus range. Feet are aggressive as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. At the plate, hitting grades are at a pro level with tremendous power potential. Hands are quick (98 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. Barrel accuracy is tremendous with the baseball coming off the bat a lot different. He has HR power, showing best to the pull side. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 90 mph. Fastball showed a range of 88-90 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with arm side run. Off speed stuff are outstanding and will get outs at the next level. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and locates to both sides of the plate with all his pitches. Jason has the makings of a special type player and will be get looks from the pro scouts and top collegiate coaches.

10/17/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures South Rooks has a large frame with a mature look at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds. He posted 7.12 in the 60 yard dash, and featured two-way ability. At the plate, he showed strong hands and the ability to impact the ball with authority, allowing for high raw power marks. His move was very simple with little to go wrong, to the point that he could actually do a little more to rotate his core through contact. He has a great foundation to build on as a hitter, giving him potential to get to his impressive raw power more frequently. Defensively, he showed the makings of a very strong arm and profiles well as a right fielder. On the mound, he worked from the stretch, topped at 86 mph with his fastball and was able to land his low 70s breaking ball. His arm worked well from the glove and out front, and worked in coordination with his lower half. Overall, a physical player with an exciting right-handed power and arm strength combination.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
