Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Javier continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 70 mph. Arm action is loose / easy and works well to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

11/11/2018 - College PREP - East Hampton (Hartford), CT Javier is a lean RHP/3B who will graduate in 2022. At the plate he shows a squared / crouched setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. At 3B, he displays clean actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper angles but needs to attack ball more and play through with his body. Glove action is soft but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 64-67 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 4 years to further develop, Javier has abilities with a lot of room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
