Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Javier is a coachable 2B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the West Coast Winter Classic. In the field, Javier takes a good first step and shows efficient footwork. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a two-handed exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate to his target. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Javier improve defensively. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance with his hands held low. He gets into a simple load and drives through well with his lower half. He gets good extension through the ball, leading to consistent contact to all fields. Javier can improve as a hitter by working a smoother rhythm into his load. On the mound, Javier gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes square to his target. Javier shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 56mph. Breaking ball sits at 50mph with 10-4 break. Lengthening his arm action can help Javier improve as a pitcher. With four more years to develop, Javier has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

12/15/2019 - Accelerated Interactive Video Program - Thousand Oaks, CA Javier is a 2B/OF prospect who will graduate in 2024. At 2B, Javier shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. In the OF, Javier shows quick footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a quick exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with good extension, leading to line drives and gap to gap pop. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Cleaner release
Outfield
1. Long toss
Hitting
1. Add strength

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
