03/15/2015 - National Tryout - Plainview (Lubbock), TX Javier improved his foot speed at the event as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls while presenting hands more out front. At the plate, he shows a closed stance with balance. Hands work through a level swing path, displaying a solid line drive approach, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will improve as he uses his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-70 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Javier showcased again as a SS/RHP. In the infield he has sure hands, playable range, active feet, and an athletic fielding position. At the plate he has a good setup, smooth load, short stride, and uses his lower half well. He has good barrel accuracy and gets good extension allowing him to showcase his power to all fields. On the mound Javier showed a good 3 pitch mix with sound mechanics. He gets to a good balance point and finishes his pitches well. He pounds the zone and throws strikes with all his pitches. With his abilities, Javier should continue to compete at a high level in his career.

12/27/2011 - Vero Beach Christmas Camp and Tournament Javier is a 2017 who plays SS and is a RHP. He has better than average arm strength but he needs to work on his accuracy. In the infield he showed some potential but he needs to field with two hands, develop a more athletic fielding position and polish up his footwork. On the mound Javier's fastball was clocked at 64 mph and it had some downward movement but he needs to develop off-speed pitches to compliment his fastball. Mechanically he needs to work on his balance point, more specifically his glove/hands is too low and he rushes through. At the plate Javier has an athletic setup, short/square stride and he displayed a load. He needs to concentrate using his lower half, centering his balance and adjusting his swing path so it is on plane to the pitch (he chops down towards the ground). Javier is a very nice young man who seems to get along well with his teammates. As he gets older he will need to make the adjustments and work hard at his fundamentals but he has the tools to be successful.

07/19/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Carrollton (DFW), TX Javier is a tall, solid, SS / RHP with good athleticism. Defensively, Javier has good lateral range, decent hands, and he flashes a good backhand. He squares his body up to the ball well, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a long arm action with life to his target. On the mound, Javier has a long / free arm action, level shoulders, and his FB touches 65 MPH. He mixes in his off-speed well, and he competes in the zone with his pitches. Offensively, Javier has a tall / square set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He lets the ball travel, he has average bat speed, and he gets good extension through the ball. Javier has a line drive approach, he has good barrel accuracy, and he can spray to all fields. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Soften glove
2. Quicken 1st step
3. Play lower to ground
Pitching
1. Improve mechanics
2. Balance point
3. More lower 1/2
Offense
1. Loosen grip
2. Rhythm / Timing
3. More lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
