10/30/2016 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Jay is a lean, athletic 2017 prospect who shows valuable versatility on the field. He is a natural hitter with good instincts at the plate and a sound approach to get the pitch he wants to drive. At short, his feet work well to the ball, taking good angles and showing the ability to field the slow roller. He has extended range to both sides of his body and funnels the ball to his belt buckle, fielding smoothly with soft hands. Behind the plate, he shows advanced receiving skills, working around the ball and sticking pitches in the zone for strikes. He takes good angles to block and gets down quickly to smother balls in the dirt. Straightening out his stance will allow him to block the arm side more cleanly and become a wall behind the plate. At the dish, he shows smooth actions to load to a powerful bat angle and takes a direct path to the ball. He makes square contact and gets his arms extended on his finish to show impressive pop to the gaps. We look forward to watching Jay's continued development in his senior year.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
