09/11/2016 - College PREP - Fresno, CA Jay is a tall, broad, strong two-way prospect with a projectable frame. He displays a good feel for pitching with an easy, repeatable delivery and good command of his pitches. He features a three pitch mix with a mid 70's fastball, an 11-5 curveball that he can throw for strikes and a deceptive changeup with arm side run. He does a good job keeping his eyes on his target throughout his delivery and he rotates his lower half to his target. At first, this prospect consistently makes the plays expected of him. He has good footwork around the bag and can pick balls out of the dirt to help his teammates, while showing an accurate arm on double play throws. At the dish, he has a solid setup with good balance throughout his swing. He loads to a stacked position and stays inside the ball to spray hits to all fields. Working on extending through contact will lead to more hard hit balls and base hits. Jay is an interesting prospect with potential that we look forward to watching him reach.

09/14/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Fresno, CA Jay is a skilled 2-way player (1B/RHP) who has an athletic frame (5'10"/190). With the bat, this righty has strong/natural power. Barrel delivery is level as he uses his lower 1/2 and sprays the ball to all fields. At 1B, Jay fields the ground ball with soft hands. He moves well to his backhand and makes the plays. On the bump, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He gets good glove side lead and works in-line toward his target. He fills up the zone and throws strikes. FB ranges from 59-60 mph while breaking ball has 10/4 shape. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
