08/18/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Uniondale (Long Island), NY Jay is a strong C/1B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Jay shows efficient footwork and centers the ball in the middle of his body. He sits in an athletic stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws consistent to the 2B bag. At 1B, Jay shows efficient footwork and gets into a square position, fielding with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws consistently on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting back into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a short swing with good bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives. Overall, Jay is a solid prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jay continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times were in the 2.16 range with accuracy and on line carry on his throws. Feet are active, working in line to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He plays with a ton of energy and shows the ability to handle a pitching staff with his receiving/blocking skills. At the plate, hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work inside the baseball as he utilizes all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered with gap-to-gap pop. Jay has lot of potential and will get looks from collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

10/14/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Uniondale (Long Island), NY Jay continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a bright future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he utilizes his quick feet well in working in line to his target through a quick, easy transfer/exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his best time to date at 2.06 with accuracy and carry on his throws. He shows an athletic setup and is soft/quiet through the receiving process. He utilizes his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving/blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. He moves well laterally and shows a solid backhand. Glove action is soft/sure as he presents well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine, now displaying outstanding hitting/power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and he has strength in his swing (85 exit velocity) with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered. With 2 years to further develop, Jay has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Jay is a solid, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting/power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer/exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Jay shows accuracy on his throws. Pop times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft and he sticks it in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner and improve his lateral movements. Mental makeup is a plus as he Jay is very coachable and a team player. With 3 years to further develop, Jay has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
