Official Scouting Report

  • RHPPosition Projection

12/11/2016 - College PREP - Thousand Oaks, CA Jay is an athletic built RHP pitcher who graduates in 2017. On the mound, Jay has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from an over the top arm slot. He works downhill and extends through his release. Jay stays square to home plate with a controlled landing as he does an effective job rotating his core. He keeps his delivery simple and repeatable doing a nice job keeping his head on his target throughout his motion. His fastball has good cut movement at 73-74 MPH and his change-up mimics it in movement. Jay also features an 11-5 breaking curveball with good depth. Offensively, Jay has a square, athletic stance with a firm-front side. He maintains direction with his stride and stays balanced throughout his swing. Jay has a direct swing path that shows consistent results. He has the ability to drive the ball to each gap. Overall, Jay has a solid foundation of skills and the potential to get even better.

12/13/2015 - College PREP - Thousand Oaks, CA Jay is a RHP/2B with an outstanding frame and strong lower half. On the mound, delivery is repeatable working in line to his target, allowing his arm action to work loose to the plate through a high 3/4 arm slot. Mechanics will improve as he works in line and separates his hands sooner. Fastball shows in the mid 70 range. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break and changeup shows cutting action. He throws strikes with all his pitches with stock on mound improving quickly as he builds more arm strength. At 2B, he utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movement, displaying range in the MIF. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process but will benefit by presenting glove more out front. At the plate, he shows a strong front side and maintains balance through the swing. Lower half works well and makes consistent contact, utilizing all fields. Overall, Jay has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
