07/17/2010 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Jay participated in Team One West as an OF, and showed similar skills as in previous workouts. Defensively, Jay has quick feet, quick actions, and he takes good angles and routes to the ball. He uses his body well when throwing and gets good carry to his target. At the plate, Jay is a good switch hitter who is equal from both sides. He has good bat speed, a level swing, and he puts the ball in play. Improved balance and barrel accuracy from both sides will help switch hitting numbers get better.

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Pryor continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities as foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date and is now a superior runner at 6.60. Feet have life and moves quickly displaying athletic actions. Glove actions are soft, sure, and clean in making all the plays. Offensively, Jay shows a balanced approach as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He was 3 for 7 with a 2B at the event and once he gets on the bases he puts pressure on defenses with his foot speed.

12/27/2009 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2009 Pryor continues to show plus abilities in his baseball play in the middle of the IF plus in the OF. He has a lot of athletic actions in his defensive play. Feet are quick and active as he is aggressive in his defensive play. At the plate, Jay continues to show as a switch hitter displaying best from the right side. He is now a class 4 player as he will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

08/11/2009 - College PREP - La Jolla, CA Jay is a young two-way player at SS plus in the OF with an athletic body that is well suited for his positions. He has a ton of athletic abilities and shows them off in his play. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.84 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in coming to get and playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. Lateral movement is a plus as he displays plus range in the middle of the IF. Hands are soft, clean, and sure in making all the plays. Feet and hands work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly as he throws from all angles. In the OF, he takes proper routes and angles in tracking down balls as he works to get behind to play through with momentum to target. Defensive abilities in the IF and OF are well above average. Arm strength is above average as indicated by his top velocity of 85 mph at the arm strength station. His throws display life, carry, and accuracy through a quick arm action. At the plate, Pryor is a switch hitter with near above average abilities and solid average power from both sides. He shows a balanced approach allowing his hands to work directly and quickly to the baseball, generating bat speed. Hands work inside the ball, utilizing all fields as he shows a consistent feel for the barrel. Lower half works well through the swing and he will hit at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, Jay has the makings to be a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches and pro scouts.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
