12/06/2015 - College PREP - Nyack (NYC), NY Jayson is an exciting young 2-way prospect who is only a 2018 grad but already has an XL frame at 6'5"/250. He has good coordination and feel and that shows - especially on the mound. He has a balanced, controlled delivery and clean arm action that leads to consistent strikes with his low to mid 70s fastball. The ball comes out of his hand easily and his height and high 3/4 release generates nice downhill plane to all of his offerings. His offspeed stuff is in the development stages, but both his curve and change show promise and should be above average pitches in the future. As a position player, Jayson has natural leverage in his swing. There isn't a ton of bat speed, but he finds the barrel consistently and the ball comes off his bat with authority. Defensively, he makes plays and has reliable hands while providing a nice, big target for throws. He has good feel around the bag and will continue to improve his range as he quickens his feet. Overall, this is an extremely intriguing prospect with a high ceiling who merits close following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
