01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament JD continues to show improvements and a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.99. Throws display accuracy and on line carry through his target. He will control the running game with feet / arm. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process with tool improving as he creates better angles to deaden ball. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying outstanding hitting / power potential an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows plus barrel accuracy with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Hands work to stay inside the baseball with gap to gap pop. At the event, he was 4 for 6 with a 2B and 3B.

10/26/2016 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One JD is a strong right handed catcher who will graduate in 2017. Offensively, he hit the ball hard to both gaps, as he showed good balance throughout his swing, a short/controlled stride, hands that were loaded on time and a firm front side, with hips that exploded through contact. Defensively, he showed an athletic setup behind the plate and good footwork on his blocks and throws down to 2nd base. His arm plays well for the position (2.00 low pop time), as he showed the ability to make accurate and strong throws to 2nd base. JD is a hard nosed player and has a very bright future in this game on both sides of the ball.

07/31/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Gillette, WY JD continues to progress on the diamond. Behind the dish - he will control the running game with his arm. Pop times now at 1.97 coming from a quick transfer as he gains ground toward his target. At 1B, he has athletic actions and moves well around the bag. He tracks GB's into a soft mitt with the ability to pick it and gathers well. As a hitter - JD shows a balanced/athletic setup with fluid rhythm to load. Quick hands whip the barrel through the zone quickly. He squares the ball up and hits line-drives. JD is a versatile athlete who will make things happen in a variety of ways on the field.

12/27/2015 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic JD is a solid RHH catcher who showed well during his time at the Recruiting Classic. He is a coachable payer who is willing to make adjustments. Offensively, this RHH displays a square/balanced setup with a solid base. He works back into a loaded position, has good zone awareness and waits for his pitch. Swing path is level as he barrels the ball up consistently and drives it with some pop. Behind the plate - JD stays active with athletic actions. He moves well laterally and bodies up pitches in the dirt, keeping them in front. Throws down to 2B are on the bag coming from a quick/clean exchange - pop times at 2.08. JD is a gamer who shows his love for the game every time he steps onto the field. He is a well-rounded player who will find success in this his junior year.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
