ADVANCED SWING METRICS BY SWINGTRACKER

Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

05/25/2014 - College PREP - Williamsville, NY Jeff now projects as a class 4 on the mound, and topped out at 86 MPH He has a live, clean arm, on-time separation, and he repeats his delivery well. Jeff has a good mound presence, good off-speed pitches, and he lands with a proper length stride to his target. Mound effectiveness can improve if Jeff can get more extension on his pitches and raise his low some. In the OF, Jeff is aggressive to the ball, his hands are sure, and he fields out in front. He fields in good rhythm, and gets good momentum toward his target. Defense can improve if Jeff can work behind fly balls quicker and finish his throws. Offensively, Jeff is a better hitter from the right side of the plate. He has good bat speed, a rhythmic swing, and he gets good extension through the ball. He has good barrel accuracy and pop in his bat. Looser, more direct hands to the ball from the left side, and better rhythm will help hitting spike.

05/19/2013 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Jeff continues to progress in his game. This 2-way player excels on the mound. FB now tops out at 81 mph and shows some life. SL shows to be best off-speed showing 2/8 shape and heavy action. Continued work on his mechanics will improve overall mound effectiveness. In the OF he has an aggressive approach, covering ground well in the OF. He works through the ball and makes accurate throws to his target. Offensively, this switch hitter displays good rhythm and gets into a solid loaded position. He shows a little more power from the right side and will continue to drive the ball by utilizing more of his lower 1/2 throughout the swing. This 2015 grad still has time to fine tune his skills on the diamond.

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Jeff is a good young player that went 3-6 in his latest Factory outing. In the outfield, he showed great arm action, good footwork and an ability to make plays. Implementing a throwing program and increasing his foot speed will help his outfield play. At the dish, he tracks well, is balanced throughout his swing, and has an ability to spray the ball. His swing has a tendency to get long, and his front side flies open, at times. On the mound, he topped out at 76 MPH with a 10/4 curve-ball and a change-up. He needs to find some consistency with his mechanics to be more accurate and effective in the zone. Overall, Jeff is a great kid and plays the game hard. He is coachable and a great teammate.

10/21/2012 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Jeff is a solid and tall OF/RHP who graduates in 2015. Defensively in the OF, he displays an ahtletic fielding position, a controlled approach and good range. He has active footwork and works around fly balls. His is sure handed and makes accurate throws to his target. On the mound, Jeff throws 4 pitches from a 3/4 arm slot and easy arm action. FB ranges from 78-79 mph and shows run and hard action. Offensively, he is a switch hitter showing a little better from the right side. From the right side he shows a closed setup and some pull side pop. From the left side, he is aggressive and takes a level swing. Jeff has abilities and will continue to improve with hard work.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
