Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Sousa improved his 60-yard dash, down from 7.37 to 7.21. His top end fastball velocity also improved, up from 78 to 81 mph. On the mound, he showed very good arm speed and the ability to control his fastball - as long as he avoided a tendency to over throw. Must work to develop feel for secondary pitches, and can also work to separate hands earlier in delivery to give arm more time work on the back side. At the plate, he showed some bat speed and a solid swing path at times. Can work to level out path, and to use the whole field. Defensively, he showed quick feet and good hands and 2B. Can work to improve his fielding position, glove and body need to get lower to the ground. Overall, Sousa has progressed since we saw him last.

03/16/2008 - College PREP - Smithfield, RI Jeffrey is a tall athletic looking player. On the mound, shows good use of the lower half and keeps eyes on target well. Everything is around the zone. A long toss program could help increase arm strength and velocity. At 2B, shows accurate throws and soft hands. Moves laterally well. Stands straight up to throw which decreases momentum to target. Following the throw will help. Swing is quick with good extension and use of the lower half. Wrists get through the zone nicely. Jeff must learn to load his hands before swing to increase rhythm and momentum.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
