08/20/2017 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Jerel improved his foot speed at the event as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.81 runner. At 2B, feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present earlier and more out front. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angle in tracking down balls. Feet are aggressive as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive swing path. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently.

11/13/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Germantown (Memphis), TN Jerel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.21. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads ball well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. At SS, he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Defensive abilities will improve as he quickens his feeds / turns of the double play. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact mainly to the pull side. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

07/23/2016 - Factory Development Institute National Select Program Jerel is a hard working player with a great personality. He asks questions and brings it to the field every day. He really improved every day of the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, he displays smooth, fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are clean but will benefit by presenting hands more out front. He shows off his athletic ability on his feeds of the double play. Hands and feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is outstanding as he has a positive attitude, is very coachable, and is a great team player. Jerel has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

04/24/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Bartlett (Memphis), TN Jerel showed at 2B and for the first time in the OF at the event. He continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid runner at 7.32. In the IF, feet are aggressive as he moves well laterally, flashing range in the MIF. Hands are clean and he works to square ball up. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Hands / feet work well together with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive type path. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively.

07/11/2015 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Jerel showed some of his best measureables to date at the Cape Cod Select Training and Competition with Baseball Facotry. Defensively, he showed an ability to work around the baseball and became more and more sure as he worked in drills. He was active during the game play and looked to back up throws in all situations. Working his hips low to make plays will help to increase fielding percentage and staying low to throw will help increase arm strength. Offensively, he hit off a stiff front side and kept his eyes down at contact. He had a level path to make line-drive contact and did so when he was on-time. In all - Jerel should continue to work on his game play and athleticism to boost playability.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Jerel is a 2018 grad projecting as a 2B/OF'er. At the plate, this righty has a good timing mechanism with his leg kick that allows him to get into a strong hitting position and track the ball well. He will develop a more productive swing by gaining strength, getting more reps and engaging his lower 1/2. Defensively, Jerel showed some athletic actions with the ability to make some routine plays. Taking more reps and fielding on the balls of his feet will improve his defensive abilities. Overall, Jerel worked hard with his quiet demeanor.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
