01/25/2008 - Pre-Season Invitational Tournament - 2008 While his potential for further physical development in terms of strength and maturity continues to be evident, his top end fastball made another jump and his 60-yard dash time improved quite a bit. Since we saw him first in January 2007, both his bottom end fastball and top end fastball have jumped 5 mph: bottom end up from 72 to 77, top end up from 78 to 83 mph. Our first recorded 60-yard dash time was 7.52 in January 2007, while his most recent time is 7.09. The tempo and balance of his delivery are solid, and his direction is mostly solid - other than an occasionally over active glove side arm. The biggest key to future development is the improvement of his arm action - currently his elbow works in close to his side, not allowing a full or free stroke both out of the glove and out front. Ideally, his arm angle would raise a tick as well - to help him take advantage of his 6-foot-5 inch frame, and the potentially better downward plane on his fastball that could come with it. Both of these adjustments would likely make a quality secondary pitch more of a reality, since at present it is difficult to consistently spin a breaking ball with his arm action and angle.
