06/12/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One Florida Hudson has broad shoulders, with room to fill out at 6-0 180 pounds. He topped at 85 with his fastball this outing, and spun a tight breaking ball with depth into the low 70s. His arm had quickness and life out front, and he was aggressive down the slope of the mound. Reached a solid balance point, but from there was a bit herky jerky in his delivery. Pitches had down angle and life, and he worked quickly. Defensively, he worked to the ball and showed a quick release - did a good job of catching and throwing despite room to improve his footwork and glove position. At the plate, he featured a balanced approach both ways. He looked more natural as a right handed hitter, where his hands worked looser and with more precision. His left handed stroke didn't have the same speed and life as his right handed stroke. It appears his future is on the mound, where he has the look of a possible late inning bullpen type guy - aggressive with two quality pitches.

04/28/2013 - National Tryout - Tampa, FL Jerod has made several improvements in his game since we last saw him. He ran his lowest 60 time to date, running a 7.19. Continuing to quicken his footwork will benefit him offensively and defensively. He has a strong arm and makes throws that display carry across the diamond. On the mound, his FB now tops out at 86 mph and shows heavy action. He gets good extension on his follow through which helps with consistency on his delivery. Continuing to improve his off-speed will help off-set his hard FB and make him more effective on the mound. At the plate, Jerod has good rhythm which helps him get back into a loaded position and drive through the ball at contact with power. Hudson is a talented player who should get some looks to advance his game to the next level.

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Jerod showed well both in the INF and on the mound during his time in Pirate City. Defensively, Jerod has sure hands, fluid footwork, and he fields in a square / athletic position. He plays through, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy and carry to his target. On the mound, Jerod topped out at 84 MPH, he has good direction toward home, and he lands in a sound position. Offensively, Jerod has an athletic set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He has fast bat speed, he is short to the ball, and he gets his lower 1/2 through.

07/17/2012 - College PREP - Sanford (Orlando), FL Jerod is an athletic two-way player that will graduate in 2014. Defensively at shortstop, he shows a good pre-pitch setup, works his angles around the ball and has proper glove positioning to field. He works from the ground up, shows a quick exchange making accurate throws to his target with good carry. He needs to play through the ball better with his legs to cut the distance to first along with get into a lower fielding position which will allow him to soften up his glove a bit. At the plate, he shows a tall stance with a square stride and good transfer with the lower half. He has an on plane swing path showing good barrel accuracy and the ability to hit the ball to all fields. He needs to work on keeping his front side closed longer to keep his hands inside the ball along with generate more bat speed to help with power. On the mound, he shows a repeatable delivery with good command of his pitches and shows good balance. He throws downhill, is in line to his target and has a complete finish to the plate. He needs to relax a bit when pitching to allow his body to loosen up and he needs to develop his curveball. Jerod is a definite follow player in the infield and with more overall speed and strength he will be a player to follow for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
