07/05/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Jess is an athletic and talented 2023 2B prospect. At 2B, Jess is on time with his prep step, presents a low early glove, and works from the ground up. He funnels the ball into his body, has a clean exchange, and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Jess starts in an athletic stance and gets his front foot down on time and has a smooth load. He keeps a quiet head, attacks the ball with the lower half, and has loose extension through the ball. Jess has a good baseball IQ and is a student of the game. Jess will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/12/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Wildomar (Los Angeles), CA Jess is a (2023 grad) as a 2B/C. Defensively at 2B, he hustles well and works into a low/square fielding position on GB's. He gathers well, has a clean transfer and makes aggressive throws to his target. Behind the plate, he tracks with his eyes and sticks pitches in the zone. He gets rid of the ball with a quick exchange and makes on-line throws down to 2B. As a hitter, Jess shows an athletic setup with smooth rhythm. He uses all parts of the field as he swings on a direct path through the zone and drives pitches from gap to gap. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Quick footwork
2. Develop soft hands
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Catching
1. Low setup
2. Center to block
3. More on the bag throws
Offense
1. Improve bat speed
2. Stay level
3. Contact points

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
