01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jhomar continues to show improvements and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean/transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.95. Throws display accuracy and on line carry through his target. He will control the running game with his feet/arm. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking it in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process with tools improving as he creates better angles to deaden the ball. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact and puts the ball in play. At the event, he was 3 for 5 with 3 BB as he displays a patient approach.

10/26/2016 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Jhomar again showed his skills on the field as a versatile and athletic utility-type player who is willing to compete at any position he is asked to play. Behind the plate, he showed quick/soft hands which allowed him to block and deaden balls well, along with good framing skills. Hands were also quick to make exchanges on his throws down to 2nd, which were accurate and fast (2.01 best pop time). Offensively he hit the ball hard in 3 of his 7 at bats, showing an athletic, loose swing that allowed him to stay balanced and keep his hands on a direct path inside the baseball. Jhomar has a high ceiling in this game, at multiple positions and will be exciting to keep track of as he continues to progress and improve as a player.

08/08/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Jhomar is a versatile, athletic C/3B prospect who is just a gamer and does whatever it takes on the field. He has a big arm behind the dish to throw out runners leading to some low in game pop times (2.1 seconds). Gonzalez is a great receiver, working around the ball with soft hands and a stiff wrist. He has great lateral agility, allowing him to get down quickly and block balls to both sides. At the plate, this prospect has good vision and tracking ability, picking out the pitches he wants to swing at. He shows a great feel for the barrel, consistently squaring up the ball and hitting it hard with a fast bat through the zone. Staying square to the pitcher will allow him to get more extension and increase his power moving forward. Jhomar is a solid player who looks more and more like a prospect for the next level.

05/22/2016 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Jhomar is a skilled R/R 2-way player as a C/SS. Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic actions and flexion. He is quick laterally around pitches in the dirt and centers the ball off of his chest. Exchange is quick as he gains ground toward 2B on throws down - pop times of 2.05. At SS, Jhomar moves fluidly right to left, funnels smoothly and has a clean transfer from glove to hand. As a hitter - this righty has centered balance with rhythm to load. He swings on a level path and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. Gonzalez is a well-rounded / versatile athlete who can make things happen in a variety of ways.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
