09/02/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Albany, NY Jimmy is an athletic two-way prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the field, Jimmy shows active footwork and covers ground well. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them on-line to his target. Jimmy can improve defensively by presenting his hands sooner. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and gets back into his load well. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed which leads to solid contact. Jimmy can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Jimmy works with a clean arm action and extends through on his release. He shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 76mph. Curveball sits from 60-62mph with 9-3 break. Slider sits from 57-58mph with 9-3 break. Changeup ranges from 68-72mph. Jimmy can improve as a pitcher by gathering to a balance point over the rubber. Overall, Jimmy is a developing prospect who has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Jimmy is a lean, athletic RHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls through a low approach. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 71-72 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with tight spin and gradual break. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 4 years to further develop, Jimmy has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
