04/12/2015 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA JJ only showed behind the plate at the event and continues to shine both offensively / defensively with a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he has really improved through a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path and aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields as he shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. Behind the plate, pop times have dropped as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.00 with life, accuracy, and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He will control the running with his feet / arm and shows quality receiving / blocking tools that will play well at the next level. Duarte has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coach with baseball abilities.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament JJ continues to display defensive prowess behind the dish with feel to hit. Defensively, he sat well, received in front with a subtle glove, and had a quick/clean transfer to throw in the 2.0 range. He saw it in to the mitt, and anticipated it down in the dirt to deaden in front. At the plate, he showed pop with his direct, loose hands, and extension out front. He was accurate with the barrel and showed good feel to hit. Overall - Duarte is an athletic player that does everything on the diamond with coordination and feel.

03/16/2014 - National Tryout - Carson, CA Jonathan has molded himself into quite a prospect. He has made great improvements in his game, especially with the bat. He is aggressive and takes a hack. He drives his lower 1/2 and stays through the ball creating extension through the zone. Behind the dish, he tracks the ball into his mitt and sticks it well. He has a quick exchange and has lowered his pop time to now getting in down to 2B in as low as 2.03. At 1B, Jonathan shows good footwork around the bag and can make adjustments to inaccurate throws. Only a 2016 grad - Duarte has the skills and will turn some heads over the next couple of years.

07/27/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Jonathan is a tall/athletic 2016 graduate who plays C/3B. He has above average arm strength with short/quick arm action. Behind the plate Jonathan has an athletic/low/wide set-up, he is in-line on throws and when blocking he covers well, keeps his head down and moves around well. He needs to have less movement of his body (ex. Dropping knee), when receiving, stay down on pitches that are up (allow umpire to see the ball) and long toss for arm strength. As an infielder Jonathan makes plays, he has firm hands, active footwork and he has a controlled approach. At the plate he has an athletic set-up, short/square stride, he hits well to opposite field (he is losing power though because his weight is out front) and a level swing path. He needs to get his stride foot down earlier, keep his balance centered (he is out front), allow the ball to travel into the proper hitting zone and use his lower half more. .Jonathan is a coachable kid with a good knowledge of the game and a big upside. He has the ability to be a very good player if he makes some adjustments and works hard.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
