Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

01/07/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (AZ) Joaquin is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. Decent frame thin build with projectability and room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.71 60-yard dash. At SS, starts with active/efficient footwork and ability to pick out hops. Creates good fielding angles and ability to play through the ball. Show some softness in his hands and fields the ball out front with a low funnel. Throws from multiple arm slots, with accurate/on-line throws, across diamond and an arm velocity of 75mph. Displayed nice touch on DP feeds and a 2 hand pivot on DP. Right-handed pitcher who works downhill and in-line to target. Good balance who stays tall on the backside with a quick arm. Showed plus command on his pitches. 2 pitch pitcher whose FB topped out at 70mph and showed feel for a changeup. Right-handed hitter begins with an athletic and open stance. Ability to stay inside the ball with good extension. Aggressive approach with ability to hit line drives to all fields. In live game action, Joaquin reached base 1 time including a bat exit velocity of 77mph. With continued growth and development, we can see Joaquin having opportunities to play at the next level.

08/13/2021 - Baseball Factory Summer Classic Joaquin continues to shine on the diamond. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. Fastball shows good sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and develops more off speed stuff.

12/20/2020 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Joaquin is a coachable SS/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Christmas Camp & Tournament. In the field, Joaquin makes the routine plays and has a clean exchange. He gains ground well on his throws and keeps them accurate to his target. Getting into a lower fielding position can help Joaquin field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a centered stride. He works through a level swing and produces solid contact. Joaquin can improve his timing at the plate by getting his stride foot down sooner. On the mound, Joaquin gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and accelerates through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Joaquin shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 65mph with arm side run. Changeup sits from 63-64mph with sinking action. Finishing with his chest square to the plate can help Joaquin improve his pitch command. Overall, Joaquin is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

12/06/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Lynwood (Chicago), IL Joaquin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft and presents well out front, working from the ground up. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 67 mph. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

02/16/2020 - College PREP - Lake Zurich (Chicago), IL Joaquin is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. In the field, Joaquin shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He gets into an athletic position and fields with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Getting rid of the ball quicker can help Joaquin improve defensively. At the pate, this RHH sets up in an open stance with center balance. He is fluid getting back into his load and takes a direct swing, producing solid line drives. Joaquin can improve as a hitter by taking a square stride. On the mound, Joaquin gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works inline towards the plate and keeps his pitches around the zone. Joaquin shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 63mph. Breaking ball sits from 53-54mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 57-59mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Loosening his arm action can help Joaquin improve as a pitcher. Overall, Joaquin is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
