02/17/2018 - So Cal Regional Accelerated Pitching & Catching Weekend (Ages 12-14) Joaquin continued to show as a prospect at the So Cal Regional Accelerated Pitching & Catching Weekend. On the mound, Joaquin repeats his delivery well as he gathers other the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm action and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Joaquin shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 51mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 38-40mph with 11-5 break. Joaquin can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes his stride on time. He shows a smooth rhythm and maintains center balance throughout his swing. He takes a level swing and produces consistent contact. Joaquin can improve as a hitter by working a load into his swing. With six more years to develop, Joaquin has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

01/28/2018 - Interactive Video Program - San Diego, CA Joaquin is a young, thin, 2-way player who pitches and plays 2nd base. On the mound, Joaquin has a balanced delivery, he separates on-time, and gets good extension on his pitches. He lands with proper length, competes in the zone, and rotates through to his target. At 2nd base, Joaquin works low, he centers well on his body, and has a clean exchange with a ¾ arm slot to his target. Offensively, Joaquin has a tall set-up, a short stride, and a level swing. He makes consistent contact and uses some lower body. Joaquin can get better with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Loosen arm action
2. More lower body
3. Arm strength
Defense
1. Fielding position
2. Hands
3. Exchange/release
Offense
1. Lower body
2. Bat speed
3. Rhythm/timing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
