01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament JC continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through an aggressive swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. At SS, feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Hands are soft/sure and he presents well out front. Feet/hands work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy/carry on his throws. On the mound, fastball topped out at 83 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break. Changeup shows sinking action but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. JC has a lot of potential and will get looks from collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

01/18/2016 - College PREP - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Dyer continues to show well on the diamond. This athletic MIF moves fluidly around the GB from right to left with quick footwork. He gathers smoothly and has a quick/clean exchange to throw. Offensively, this righty stands in with centered balance and a solid base. He has fluid rhythm to load, barrels the ball up and drives it back up the middle of the field. On the mound, this RHP works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and fires from a loose/free arm action. FB now tops out at 80 mph as he works to keep it down in the zone. Breaking ball shows to be a solid out pitch with 11/5 shape, tight spin & late bite. Dyer is a versatile player who can make things happen in a variety of ways.

09/30/2015 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Joe is a gamer who brings his all every time he takes the field. At SS, he shows quick/active footwork and hustles around the GB into an athletic fielding position. He has plus lateral range and isn't afraid to lay out and get dirty. He works low from the ground-up and has a quick release to throw. With the bat - Joe has a balanced setup with patience as he is selective and waits for his pitch. Swing is level as he connects and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. More extension through contact will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Curveball shows 11/5 shape as he 'buries' it in the dirt - proving to be a solid swing and miss pitch. He lives in the bottom of the zone - resulting in a ton of GB outs. Dyer is a versatile player who will make a great addition to any team. As he continues to physically mature and get stronger he will unlock his full potential on the diamond.

On the mound, J.C. showed good arm action and deceptive velo. He also demonstrated good fielding ability with PFP's. Incorporating the lower half more into his mechanics will be instrumental to his improvement. In the field, J.C. is an energetic and athletic shortstop. He showed good range and sure hands. A consistent throwing program will help improve overall strength to throw across the diamond. In all - J.C. is an intriguing prospect with sound tools that project.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
