08/24/2013 - Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory The most physical at present of all the pitchers at the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game, Joe stands at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds with long features and room to fill out even more. He showed a solid four pitch mix, including a fastball that topped at 93 and sat around 90. His curve has downward action near 12-6 in the low 70s, and he also throws a low 80s slider with more tilt. His change was 84 with fastball arm action and arm speed. In this outing, he didn't have the same fastball life or command I've seen in the past. He walked one and gave up four hits, none of which were that solid - but they found the outfield grass in any case.

09/22/2012 - 2012 Team One Futures Series East Joe is a tall, solid RHP with a plus pitcher's frame that will graduate in 2014. Delivery is outstanding, displaying repeatable / sound mechanics that allows his arm action to work quickly and freely to the plate. He hides the ball well through a strong balance point. Arm strength is at a pro level as he topped out at 92 mph. Fastball shows a range of 90-92 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp breaking action with late depth. Command / control are tremendous as he throws strikes with all his pitches and attacks hitters, changing speeds well. With 2 years to further develop, Gatto has the makings to be a top 2014 draft guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
