06/06/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Joe continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the bump, he had a solid showing at the event. He attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo. Fastball showed a range of 84-86 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. At 1B, he has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Hands are soft/sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws zipping across the diamond. At the plate, this LHH loads well and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with plus barrel accuracy.

02/19/2017 - College PREP - Sugar Land (Houston), TX Joe is a 2018 1B/RHP prospect with a projectable frame (6'3”, 175lbs) and tools all over the field. He shows advanced bat to ball skills with feel for the barrel and the ability to use all fields effectively. His swing is fluid with a strong lower half that generates lots of power. His hands explode through the zone directly to the ball and he barrels it up consistently to make hard contact from gap to gap with power into the alleys. At first, he shows efficient footwork to field and works around the bag to receive throws. He presents his hands to field and picks the ball cleanly. Agility drills will speed up his feet and extend his range. On the bump, this tall righty uses his long levers to work downhill to the plate and generate good velocity with strong arms and legs. The ball comes out of his hand well, up to 85mph on his fastball, showing 10-4 break on the curve and sink on the changeup, as he controls each pitch to both sides of the plate. Joe is an exciting prospect who looks to have the tools and work ethic to play at the next level.

02/07/2016 - College PREP - Tomball (Houston), TX Joe is a (6'2"/160) 2-way player (RHP/1B) who can make things happen on the diamond. On the mound, this RHP has an effective 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and free arm action. He has smooth separation and stays directional toward the dish. FB cracks the mitt at 83 mph while breaking ball shows 11/5 shape. Changeup shows slight sink as he throws it with FB arm speed - helping to create deception. He works the ball in and out and challenges hitters. At 1B, Joe is aggressive and comes to get the GB. He has plus lateral range and makes the plays with soft/sure hands. Offensively, Joe shows a square/athletic setup with rhythm to load. He swings on a level path and barrels the ball up consistently. Engaging more of his lower 1/2 will help to create more power at the plate. A 2018 grad - Joe has a solid skill-set and has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
