Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

05/20/2018 - College PREP - Gambrills, MD Joe continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and he has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.87. In the OF, defensive abilities are now solid as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. He throws a slider that is harder than breaking ball with tight spin. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/17/2017 - Factory Development Institute National Select Program Joe is a hard working player who showed a great attitude during his time at the Factory Development Institute National Select Program. In the field, Joe shows active footwork and covers ground well when tracking down fly balls. He gets into a square position and fields ground balls with soft hands. He has a clean exchange and throws with a short arm action and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Joe can improve defensively by incorporating a long toss program to build up his arm strength. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He is smooth getting into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact and line drives. Joe can improve as a hitter by loading his hands more. On the mound, Joe shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70mph with good arm side run. Breaking ball ranges from 57-61mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits at 60mph with arm side tail. Joe can improve as a pitcher by working into a better balance point over the rubber. With three more years to develop, Joe has the time and potential to further progress his game.

02/11/2017 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Joe is a LHH who continues to make strides in his game. He is a strong kid who connects with pop and can drive the ball to all parts of the field. Working to create more extension through the zone while engaging his lower 1/2 will help to increase power. Radek has upside and will only continue to progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
