Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Joe show as an OF/RHP but currently projects best in the OF for the next level where he has improved his abilities. In the OF, defensive abilities are now solid as he utilizes his quick / athletic feet in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Throws display life, carry, and accuracy through his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he displays an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path through an aggressive approach. He has pop in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. At the event, he was 2 for 4 with a 3B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-74 mph with cutting action. Stock on mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, develop better off speed stuff and throws more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays with a lot of energy and is very coachable, working hard to be the best player he can be.

07/07/2014 - College PREP - Cleveland, OH Joe is a 2-way player (RHP/OF) who has a strong frame (5'11"/190). On the bump, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a free arm action. He keeps his eyes on the target, gets good glove side lead, and works downhill toward the dish. FB ranges from 72-74 mph while showing sink. Breaking ball is best off-speed as it has 11/5 shape. In the OF, Joe shows active prep footwork as he moves into position behind the fly-ball. He has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws to his target. With the bat, this RHH shows a quiet approach with good balance. He connects and drives the ball on a line. More lower 1/2 drive will result in increased power. Rivera (only a 2016 grad) is a few adjustments from taking his game to the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
