Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

08/03/2014 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Joe continues to show as a RHP/3B but currently projects best at 3B where he continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive grade are now slightly above average as he displays clean / smooth actions. He moves well laterally, flashing range and is aggressive with his feet. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, hitting grades have improved as well through a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He throws a knuckle ball that is flat. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will improve as he builds more arm strength and develops better off speed stuff.

02/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Sarasota Joe is a junior RHP/2B that showed sound hit ability. At the plate, he showed an activated load and was able to control the barrel through contact. His situational hitting was sound and he was level with the barrel. Defensively, he worked for a little bit of time at 2B, making plays with raw ability. Getting to a fielding position on time and working his glove further in front will enable greater fielding success. On the mound, he threw four pitches - changing speeds and getting outs. He had good overall rhythm and was able to repeat his delivery with a sound head and fluid arm action. In all - Joe is a great kid that works hard, brings good energy and has some potential with two more seasons to refine his ability.

01/20/2014 - College PREP - Omaha, NE Joe is a 2-way player as a RHP/2B. On the bump, he has a 3-pitch mix coming from 3/4 arm slot. He throws a fastball, curveball, and knuckle-ball. He shows smooth mechanics as he works through fluid separation and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. He gets good extension out over his front side and finishes his pitches. FB shows arm-side run and tops out at 71 mph. Breaking ball shows early/gradual break while knuckle-ball has sink. Driving off the rubber and working in-line toward the dish will help to improve mound effectiveness. At 2B, Joe hustles and works to get into a square fielding position. He works from right to left and makes the play. At the plate, this RHH shows a square setup with a solid base. He remains balanced and has a repeatable swing. Barrel delivery is level as he hits line-drives. More lower 1/2 drive will increase power at the plate. A 2015 grad - Joe still has time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
