12/04/2016 - National Tryout Plus - McCook (Chicago), IL Joel improved in defensive abilities at 2B at the event. This athletic MIF has smooth/quick actions and works fluidly from right to left through the GB. Hands are soft but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. As a hitter, he shows a tall, athletic setup. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. Joel has abilities with a lot of room to progress his game.

09/25/2016 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Joel is an athletic OF/2B prospect who graduates in 2017. As a right-handed hitter, Joel has a tall, square stance with a short stride. He does a nice job staying balanced with a quiet head throughout his swing. Joel is working to become more fluid with his rhythm to produce more consistently. He shows power to the pull side. In the outfield, Joel plays with efficient footwork giving him good range. He throws with a short arm action from a 3/4 slot. Joel does a nice job playing with momentum towards his target. At 2B, Joel has a good pre-pitch and takes the correct angles, especially to the glove side. He gets square to the baseball and is working to receive the ball with a softer glove. Joel throws across the diamond from a 3/4 slot producing consistent results online. Joel flashes upside and should continue to develop as he polishes his baseball skills.

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Joel is a young OF that will graduate in 2017. With the stick, he has good strike zone awareness and keeps his head still throughout his swing to aid in a more accurate barrel. Implementing a load with his hands, becoming more consistent with his timing, and driving with his lower half will improve hit and power ability. All in all - Joel is a good kid who has a lot of potential with work over the next 3 years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
