Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Joey continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time, now an above average runner at 7.10. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot ground. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 65-68 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes, locating to both sides of the plate. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/19/2017 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Joey is a young, lefty, 2-way player who plays OF and LHP. Defensively, Joey has active feet, he attacks the ball aggressively, and he takes good angles. He has firm hands, a clean exchange, and a loose arm action to his target. A more sure glove, more momentum toward his target, and a higher arm slot with added strength will help OF skills get better. On the hill, Joey has a simple delivery, he stands over the rubber well, and separates on-time. He lands in a square position, with proper length, and keeps the ball down in the zone. Mound effectiveness can improve if Joey can use more lower body, add glove side lead, and add arm strength. Offensively, Joey has a square set-up, short stride, and a middle approach. He has direct hands to the ball and makes contact consistently. Hitting can spike with better balance, bat speed, and more lower .

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
