09/10/2011 - Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Pre-High School) Joey worked very hard and did a great job at the hitting camp. He sets up in an athletic position with his lower half, feet slightly open, hands in a comfortable spot. Would like to see him have slightly better posture in his upper body getting his chest over his knees a bit more. When he strides and loads he does a very good job of getting his hands back into a strong hitting position however he tends to take a stride that is too long. We would like to see him shorten his stride a little bit which will allow him to get his stride foot down sooner so that he can allow his hips and hands to get started. He stays balanced throughout the swing and uses his lower body well, locking out with his lead leg and rotating his hips through properly. He takes a level swing and shows the ability to hit line drives. One area he will really need to work on is eliminating his bat drag. He has a strong tendency to pull the bat to the ball which causes his elbows to lead and his barrel to drag behind. This adds length to his swing and will get him beat when he moves up to higher levels. Overall Joey has good balance and coordination and a lot of the components in place to be a very productive hitter however he does have a few adjustments to make. If he can correct the items listed above he should develop into a very good hitter.
