09/20/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures East Piña has a solid build with natural strength at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds. He has a presence behind the plate rarely seen, and combines physical ability with it - making him an impressive overall defender. He sits well and is a sure handed receiver, and shows quick feet and athletic actions to block and throw. Throws left his hand with great life, and carried strong thru the bag. Release times were between 1.95 and 2.05 during the workout, and got down as low as 1.89 between innings. At the plate, he uses his strength more than his athletic ability. It's a bigger muscles type stroke, and he can drive the ball with authority to the pull side. As he works to active the smaller muscles and rely more on quick burst actions, he stands to see an improvement as a hitter. He is a talented athlete, combines 6.83 speed with natural strength and size - and he hasn't harnessed this ability quite yet.
