06/16/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Joey continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.36 runner. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet in covering a lot of ground and makes the routine plays. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound.

12/03/2017 - College PREP - Lynwood (Chicago), IL Joey is an athletic OF prospect who will graduate in 2020. In the field, Joey gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a clean exchange and gains momentum on his throws which allows them to be consistent to his target. Joey can improve defensively by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth getting back into his load and leads well with his lower half. He comes through the zone with decent bat speed and produces consistent contact. Joey can improve as a hitter by taking a more direct swing to the ball. Overall, Joey is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
