01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Joey continues to show progress in baseball tools. Behind the plate, pop times were in the 1.97 range with accuracy and on line carry on his throws. Feet are active, working in line to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He plays with a ton of energy and shows the ability to handle a pitching staff with his receiving / blocking skills. At the plate, hands works inside the baseball as he utilizes all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 2 with 2 BB as he shows good plate discipline. Joey has a ton of potential and is a sure player to follow.

09/06/2015 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Joey continues to work hard to improve his skills in his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. At the plate, Joey shows a strong, simple swing with a ton of pop. He hits to the pull side well with his quick, explosive hands. As he works to hit to all fields, his hitting stock will rise. Behind the dish, Joey works with smooth cadence in his feet on his throws to 2B. Pop times (1.96) will only improve with work on transfer, arm strength and quicker feet. He blocks the ball well to both sides and as he continues to polish his defensive skills, he will see his C abilities jump to the next level. Overall, Joey shows next level tools as he enters his final season as a HS player.

07/20/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Joey showed with a larger frame at 6'1/185 lbs at the Baseball Factory National West Showcase. Defense continues to be the strong point, but his offensive game isn't far off of that. His glove played sure and he worked with active feet to take good angles to come get his hops. He was efficient with his feet, and used the lower to throw across the diamond (84 raw velo). Offensively, he had rhythm and loose actions to deliver the barrel. He got his hands ready to hit and was direct with his route to contact. He was a line-drive type hitter that collected two singles to the right side. Joey has a chance to play the game at a high level with his advanced feel with the glove and simple move to hit.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Joey continues to shine on the diamond. With the glove, he displays quick/active footwork with good prep moving on the balls of his feet. He presents his glove and funnels smoothly to a clean exchange. Arm whip is quick as he gets rid of the ball across the diamond. At the plate, he has an aggressive approach looking to swing it when he steps into the box. He remains balanced throughout his swing and has good strike zone discipline. At (6'0"/170) - Joey has a ton of upside with the skills that will provide success on the diamond.

12/27/2014 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Joey is an athletic 3B with the makings of a special type player at the next level that will graduate in 2016 with plus baseball tools across the board. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.34 60 time. Defensive grade at 3B is tremendous, displaying smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in attacking ground balls, plays through, and presents soft / sure hands well out front. Lateral movement is a plus as he displays range in the MIF. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play and shows big play potential. Throws are accurate with life and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly displaying outstanding arm strength. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup, displaying well above average hitting / power potential. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered and works the count to his favor with a strong understanding of strike zone. Barrel accuracy is outstanding and he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Once on base, he utilizes his foot speed to take the extra base, displaying plus instincts. At the event, he was 3 for 6 with 2 2B and consistently made hard contact. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is a hard worker. Joey has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
