01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Joey is a stud of a southpaw prospect on the bump with the stuff and feel to be the ace of a staff. His delivery is effortless with easy, repeatable mechanics to show impeccable command to both sides of the plate. He is a strike out machine with 3 above average pitches including a mid 80's fastball with run or cut and pinpoint command, a slurvy 2-8 curve with good break and a deceptive change. His potential is off the charts with a great frame for pitching and the loose, clean arm that will be able to hold up over a long season. Joey will be a weekend starter at the next level very soon.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Joey is a tall, projectable LHP/1B prospect who definitely looks the part on the mound with his intimidating presence. The southpaw shows impressive command on the mound, as he is comfortable throwing all three of his pitches in any count and can work to both sides of the plate. At the dish, his approach is very patient as he sees a lot pitches and makes the pitcher work during the at bat. He has a direct, compact swing with a good bat angle and is able to make consistent contact to put the ball in play. He shows soft hands at first, presenting them out front to field to dictate hops and show picking ability. His arm strength is evident as he is dangerous throwing around the infield to gun down runners. On the hill, his big frame creates lots of deception in his delivery and his loose, clean arm stroke leads to great movement on his pitches. His sinker reaches the mid 80's with tremendous boring action, inducing weak contact as well as being a go-to pitch in any at bat, while his curveball shows good break and he commands it well. Getting stronger in his lower half will allow him to reach his full potential on the mound. Joey is a very exciting prospect who has the look of a college pitcher on the mound and we expect him to pitch at the next level.

04/03/2016 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Joey is a 2-way player (LHP/1B) who has a tall/strong build (6'3"/180). On the mound, this lefty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm sot. He works to a controlled balance point and has smooth separation. He maintains fluid tempo and repeats his delivery well. FB tops out at 80 mph while showing late run and sink. Curveball has 1/7 shape with 'slider' like spin. Working to stay on top with a more consistent snap (release point) will help to improve effectiveness on the pitch. At 1B, Joey shows active footwork while maintaining good body control. He moves well around the bag and can adjust to throws up and down the line. With the bat, this RHH has a square setup with a solid base. He swings on a level path, squares the ball up and works to drive the middle of the field. Rock has a solid skill-set with upside as he continues to develop (2018 grad).

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
