12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Joey is an OF/LHP prospect who made adjustments well during his time at the Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. In the field, Joey fields the ball with soft hands and stays directional through the ball. He makes a clean exchange and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Joey improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a centered stride. He is fluid getting into his load and hits from a strong front side. He takes a smooth swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and gap to gap pop. Joey can improve as a hitter by letting the ball travel deeper into the hitting zone. On the mound, Joey starts with a simple rock step and gathers to a balance point over the rubber. He works with a deceptive motion and works to keep his pitches around the zone. Joey shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits at 71mph with 2-8 break. Staying inline towards the plate can help Joey improve as a pitcher. Overall, Joey is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

09/23/2018 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Joey is an athletic LHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through an open setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. In the OF, he displays fluid/athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes/angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 2 years to further develop, Joey has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
