06/19/2023 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Joey continues to shine with his baseball abilities at the Omaha event. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. In the OF, defensive abilities as he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry (81 mph velocity) to his target. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

02/26/2023 - National Showcase - Poplarville, MS Joey is a 2023 RHP/OF prospect with a tall, athletic frame. In the OF, Joey displays fluid, active footwork and impressive range. He does a good job of taking good angles to the baseball on fly balls. His fielding position is athletic and he does a nice job of presenting his hands when fielding the ball. He has a clean gather and works aggressively downhill. He has a long arm action on throws and makes strong, accurate online throws to his target. His momentum works through his throwing motion. At the plate, he features an athletic stance with a short, squared stride. His balance is centered over his body and he has a fluid rhythm with his swing. Love his flat bat path and high finish. His lower half does a good job of working through contact, and he has a good barrel angle through the zone. Made hard, consistent contact. On the mound, Joey throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and is a frequent strike-thrower. He has good balance and a quick arm action with a squared finish to the plate. His FB has some good movement with arm side run. Grades out as his best offering. He pulls a little with his shoulders when throwing his SL, which has 10-4 sharp break. Changing his grip on his CH will allow him to decrease velocity and throw for even more strikes. Does a great job of throwing it with FB arm speed. His head is very consistent and he throws with intent. Pitches have a little deception. He is a very coachable athlete!

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
