11/14/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Indianapolis, IN Joey is a RHP/3B who will graduate in 2022. Tall frame athletic build with strength present and plenty of room to add throughout. At 3B, shows active/efficient footwork, with ability to cut down distance, and good lateral range. He fields with hands out front, with a clean exchange, and a good glove angle. Made accurate/on-line throws from a low 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 86mph across diamond. On the mound, he works with good direction towards plate and keeps ball hidden until last moment. He uses his lower half well and has a quick arm stroke. He throws a FB that sits 79-81mph with plus command, a breaking ball with 10/4 shape and late break, and a developing changeup that has some cutting action. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and square stance. A square glide step, with head down at contact, and ability to find barrel. He hit balls to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 75mph. With another year of development, we see this 2-way prospect having a bright future on the baseball field.

06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Joey is a 3B/RHP prospect who showcased his skills during the All-State Tournament. In the field, Joey shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with a firm glove. His exchange is quick and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He gets back into his load and works through a level swing, producing solid contact. On the mound, Joey gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline toward the plate, finishing square to his target. Joey operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 83mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 66-68mph with 10-4 break. Knuckleball sits from 66-68mph with good tumbling action. Overall, Joey is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

03/20/2021 - All-In Membership - St. Louis, MO Joey is a class of 2022 RHP/3B prospect. Joey features a very quality and athletic looking build. On the mound, he has very clean mechanics. He does a good job of staying in his back leg. Works efficiently down the mound and finishes with his weight getting transferred through the target. Fastball gets up to 82mph. Throws 3 pitches, all from a High 3/4 arm slot. At third base, he uses fluid feet to take himself to the baseball. Fields from a low and beneath the ball position.Plays with lots of energy. At the plate, a simple set-up and stride help get him into good hitting positions. Keeps his weight in the center of his body. Has a short and direct swing path that results in finding the barrel often. Joey is a good 2-way prospect that has the ability to continue his growth in this game. We hope to see him at future events.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Joey is an athletic (5'10"/175) 2-way player (RHP/3B) who put his tools on display at the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and stays directional toward the dish. He is quick to the plate and pounds the zone with 1st pitch strikes, looking to ahead early. He varies his looks and timing to the plate with runners on, keeping the close and guessing. FB ranges from 74-76 mph as he works it in and out. Breaking ball shows 10/4 shape with 'slurve' like action. He also has the ability to throw a knuckleball which he uses as his CH. He maintains FB arm speed on it, helping to create deception. At 3B, he has active prep and comes to get the GB. He funnels smoothly as has a clean transfer to throw. As a hitter, this righty shows a simple/balanced approach working back into a loaded position. Swing is on-plane as he connects and looks to drive the middle of the field (exit velo = 81 mph). Young has tools with upside and should find success on the diamond in this only his junior season.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
