01/13/2023 - 2023 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament John Austin is a 2025 C/3B that showcased his talents at the Baseball Factory Pre-Season All America Tournament. Behind the plate, he had fluid footwork and was very agile. John Austin catches from a low/athletic position and has soft hands. His throws were accurate to the right side of the bag with a pop time of 2.08sec and an arm velo of 83mph. At the plate, he has a square setup, short stride, and simple load. He has fast bat speed, a direct swing path, and showed some pop in his BP round with an exit velo of 89mph. In the game, John Austin reached base once on a base on balls and proved to be a huge asset in the dugout. Overall, we foresee that John Austin will continue to excel and be a great piece for a lot of programs at the next level.

03/14/2021 - All-In Membership - Montgomery, AL John is a solid catcher who has a bright future on the diamond. Behind the plate, he shows a solid setup and sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner and create better angles. Pop time showed in the 2.14 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. With 4 years to further develop, John has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
