08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) John continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At SS, he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork and he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is soft/sure, presenting well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-74 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

04/08/2018 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX John is a RHP/SS who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, arm action is loose, free, and quick through a repeatable delivery. Fastball shows a range of 70-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Changeup is too hard and resembles fastball. Command/control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes to both sides of the plate. At SS, feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Hands/feet work well together through the fielding process. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick through a direct/level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half. With 2 years to further develop, John has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
