11/03/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Knoxville, TN John is a pure catch and throw backstop who also will make an impact with the bat. He also showed at 3B at the event. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Runners will not want to test his cannon for an arm with impressive pop times of 1.95. At 3B, feet are active as he attacks ground balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft/sure and presents well out front. He moves well laterally and shows a solid backhand. Offensively, he continues to shine with outstanding hitting/power potential through a squared setup. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel explosion (94 mph exit velocity) with the ball screaming off of his barrel. With 2 years to further develop, John has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) John continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. John showed accuracy on his throws behind the plate. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the dish. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament John continued to show as a prospect while at the All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. Behind the plate, John shows efficient footwork and covers ground when blocking balls in the dirt. He receives the ball with soft hands and makes consistently accurate throws to 2B. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and maintains center balance. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to consistent contact and line drives. John is a skilled prospect who has upside on the diamond.

01/08/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Dayton, OH John is a great 2-way player at C/3B. Behind the plate, he displays active footwork as he's quick to block. He has a clean exchange to throw and plays through the ball towards his target. With the bat, John hits from both sides of the plate. He has smooth rhythm in his swing as he drives pitches on a line. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
