06/12/2023 - National Showcase - Orange County, CA John continues to show improvements on his baseball abilities. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose and free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sink. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2021 - Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic John is a 2B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2024. Medium frame, well proportioned, athletic build with strength present and plenty of room to add more strength. At 2B, he starts with efficient footwork and ability to create good fielding angles. Ability to throw from multiple arm slots, with accurate/on-line throws, and an arm velocity of 78mph. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and coils into his rear hip. 2 pitch mix with his fastball sitting 73-75mph and a developing breaking ball with 11/5 shape. In 3 innings of work, he recorded 3 strikeouts. At the plate, he sets up in an upright and open stance. Small hand load, with good separation, and gets extended through contact. Hit hard line drives to all fields and reached base 7 times in live game action with a bat exit velocity of 79mph. With continued growth and development, we foresee John having opportunities to play at the next level.

In the OF, he continues to shine as he displays smooth actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
