Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 John showed well at 1B and on the mound during his time in Pirate City.  He has been very consistent both times we have seen him. Defensively, John has soft hands, athletic movements around the bag, and he fields the ball cleanly.  He has good actions, makes plays, and throws with a strong arm, accurately to his target. On the mound, John has a controlled delivery, good direction, and he stays inline toward home.  He has on-time separation, works in good rhythm and he gets extension with good arm speed. At the plate, John showed an open stance, a still head, and he stays inside the ball well.  He can work the ball to all fields, drive gap-to-gap, and he has some pop in his bat. He is a coachable player that wants to learn, and he has the ability to help a college program in the field, on the mound, and with the bat. His versatility is a plus.

11/13/2011 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA John is a solid, thick 1B/RHP that has the makings to be a solid player, possibly a two-way guy at the next level. At 1B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag with soft / clean hands and an accurate, strong arm. He needs to improve foot speed to improve defensive grades. At the plate, Fabre shows a balanced approach all show hands to work through a smooth, compact path. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through the ball as he shows a solid feel for the barrel. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to transfer weight properly through his lower half. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 84-85 mph with heavy action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break as he needs to work on finding a consistent release while staying on top. He slows his arm speed some on his changeup and needs to create more movement to improve pitch. Knuckleball tumbles but also needs to find a release point while staying on top of pitch. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. His stock on the mound will rise quickly as better off speed pitches are developed but we like his velocity right now. John has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
