06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) John shows as a prospect on the diamond as he continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.20 with accuracy and zip (81 mph velocity) to his throws. Times will continue to drop as he works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he shows outstanding power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a team player, coachable, and plays the game hard.

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) John is a lean catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the range of 2.37-2.55 with accuracy and carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft and he sticks in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down quicker. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying outstanding power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 3 years to further develop, John has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
