10/06/2021 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic John is LHH OF/RHP in the 2024 class. Defensively, he showed a good first step which allows him to track down balls. He does a good job of fielding the ball out front and gets the ball out of his glove quickly to the infield. Offensively, John utilizes an open stance with a long stride to get on plane and create good bat speed. He keeps a line drive approach but can tend to lose balance in the swing at times. Freitag is a solid defender and a good hitter but could benefit from continued development and his game will take off.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament John is an athletic OF who shines in a variety of ways on the diamond. In the OF, John showed off efficient feet, clean exchange and soft hands. These tools will continue to develop and have him ready to compete at the next level. Not only did he impress in the OF, but he also showed his pop off with an impressive 77 mph exit velocity. His short stride, athletic stance and centered balance would help him make consistent hard contact. This is where he shined the most, posting well above average ratings in hit and power. Overall, John is solid in the OF with some tools that will continue to develop. We are excited to see where this game takes him in the future.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament John continues to show as a top prospect at the Preseason Rookie event with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth, clean actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Range will continue to improve as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 73-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) John continues to show the makings of a special type player with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate with on line carry to his target. At the plate, power potential has improved through a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 2 for 5 with 2B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-74 mph with cutting action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sink. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

08/14/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ John is an athletic, talented, 2-way player who plays OF and RHP. Defensively, John has quick/fluid footwork, agile movements, and he fields in an athletic position. He gets good reads, works behind the ball, and has an accurate arm with carry to his target. On the mound, John has an athletic delivery, a loose arm circle, and he lands with good direction toward the plate. Offensively, John has an athletic/crouched stance, fast bat speed, and he makes hard/consistent contact. He has quick hands and uses his lower body. Overall skills can get even better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
