01/25/2015 - National Tryout - San Diego, CA This talented backstop continues to impress. Behind the dish, he sits in well with flexion and athletic actions. He is quick around pitches in the dirt, bodying the ball up and getting to his feet quickly. Transfer/exchange is quick as he gains ground toward 2B putting accurate throws on the bag. With the bat, John shows a balanced approach with rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is quick as he connects with strength. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it with pop to all parts of the field. John has the tool set that will play at a high level.

07/18/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One West John is a 6'/195 lbs catcher that showed exceptional hit ability. Offensively, he got his hands activated in his launch, was direct with the barrel and extended through contact. He had loose actions and utilized his lower half. Defensively, he sits easy, moves well laterally, tracks it in, and sticks pitches with sure hands. He flashes carry with his throws and is accurate to his target. Widening his base and quickening his feet to gain strength to throw will make his pops even more playable. Overall - John has another year to add consistency and strength in preparation for next level play.

01/26/2014 - National Tryout - San Diego, CA John continues to shine on the diamond. He has above average tools behind the dish as well as with the bat. Offensively, this RH swinger maintains good balance with a solid base. He has smooth actions as he gets back into a strong loaded position, and fires the barrel with quick/loose hands. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he can drive it on a line into the gaps. Behind the dish, John sits in well with flexion. Quick footwork allow him to get around pitches in the dirt as he deadens them off of his chest. Pop times remain in the low 2's as he will limit stolen bases. A power hitting catcher - players like this are in high demand.

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament John is a young, solid, Catcher with good skills. Behind the plate, John has firm hands, he receives well, and keeps the ball in front when blocking. He has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy and some carry to his target. Not stabbing and gaining ground will improve catching abilities. Offensively, John has a solid set-up, a compact swing, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. He makes solid contact and has some pop in his bat. A better set-up and more lower 1/2 can spike already solid hitting numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
